This Lithocarpus echinifer oak tree grows next to the Sepilok Canopy Walkway near Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
As this oak fruits in regular flushes it is one of the most photographed Lithocarpus trees in Borneo.

Note that L. echinifer is very similar to another Borneo endemic Lithocarpus pulcher which also has a spiny covering over the nut, but which is is almost twice the size.
