Lithocarpus havilandii is one of the most common oaks in Sabah at altitudes above 1,300m , but is less common further south in Borneo.
Also present in Sulawesi but not recorded from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Java.
Beaman et al (2001) list 44 records from Kinabalu. L. havilandii grows as a pioneer (up to 25 m) tree in forest gaps often along roadsides and ridgetops on Kinabalu.
Common along the road between Kinabalu Park HQ and Timpohon Gate at the start of the Kinabalu summit trail.
