Kleinhovia hospita, Sukau, Kinabatangan, Sabah

Kelinhovia hospita (Local name Timahar). A very common small tree of the Kinabatangan floodplain in Sabah photographed at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Do not confuse with Colona serratifolia also  MALVACEAE which has similar floating  fruits and which is also abundant on the banks of the Kinabatangan river.

The English common name of Kleinhovia hospita is “Host tree”  because  of the large number of epiphytic plants hosted by the trees including orchids and ferns.
