Mata Pelandok (Mousedeer eye) Ardisia elliptica is a common small understorey tree or shrub of beach forest in Borneo. The small berries with multiple seeds ripen pink to crimson to black and are dispersed by Yellow-vented Bulbuls and Glossy Starlings. A. elliptica is locally common at Tg Aru beach near Kota Kinabalu.
